API (Application Programming Interface) keys are unique identifiers utilised for authentication and authorisation when the Metric system communicates with external software systems. Proper management of these API keys within Metric guarantees that only authorised parties can access the verification services. It involves generating, storing, and revoking these keys securely to maintain the overall security of the system and prevent unauthorised access.
In Metric, the merchant key is a unique identifier provided by a trusted authority (such as a National Identification Authority) to businesses using Metric's services for identity verification purposes. This key is used for secure encryption of verification requests, ensuring that sensitive data is protected during transmission between the business and the authority. The merchant key acts as an additional security measure to maintain the integrity and confidentiality of the verification process within the Metric system.
A webhook is a method used by Metric to provide real-time event notifications to other applications or services. Webhooks can be utilized to inform the business or service provider about the status of a verification request or any other relevant events within the Metric system. Instead of constantly polling for updates, webhooks enable the system to receive updates automatically, making the process more efficient and timely. This allows businesses to react promptly to verification results, improving the overall user experience.
